Who Really Makes It

Who makes store-brand tires?

Updated Oct 31, 2026 · every claim links to its source

Many tire brands sold by chains and distributors are made by a bigger tire company. When a tire is recalled, the maker files a report with NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) that lists every brand affected. That's how we traced 22 of the 24 tire brands on this site to a maker.

Store-brand tires by maker

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (15 brands)

Goodyear (2 brands)

Achieva Rubber Corp. (1 brand)

Giti Tire (USA) (1 brand)

ITG Voma Corporation (1 brand)

Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. (1 brand)

Sentury Tire Thailand (1 brand)

Sumitomo Rubber USA (1 brand)

Ironman tires: American Tire Distributors' 2015 annual report says Ironman is its brand and that the tires are "made by tire manufacturers exclusively for" it. It does not name the factory, and we found no NHTSA recall naming Ironman tires (1967 to 2026).

Pathfinder tires: Discount Tire filed this recall itself, which ties the brand to Discount Tire. The record does not name the factory that built the tires.

Check any tire yourself

The DOT code on a tire sidewall starts with a plant code that identifies the factory that made it. Two differently branded tires with the same plant code came from the same factory. NHTSA on tires.

A recall shows who made that tire line on the recall date. Brands can switch factories, so every entry shows the date. More in how we check.
