How we check
Store brands rarely say who makes them. We only name a company when a public record or a company statement does, and we link that source on the page with its date. As of Oct 31, 2026: 99 entries confirmed by a record, 5 likely, 3 unconfirmed.
The verdicts
CONFIRMEDA government record (an FDA, NHTSA or CPSC recall, a court docket or a public company filing) names the company, linked below.
LIKELYA company statement or solid published reporting names the company, but we found no official record.
UNCONFIRMEDWe could not find proof of who makes it. We don't guess.
Where the records come from
- FDA Enforcement Reports (food and drugs). When a product is recalled, the report names the recalling firm, its city, and usually the label text. We read them through the FDA's public openFDA data.
- NHTSA tire recalls. Tire makers must file a recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It names the filing company and every brand and model affected. We use NHTSA's public recall files.
- CPSC recall notices (consumer products), which name the importer or maker and the country of manufacture.
- Federal court dockets, read through CourtListener.
- Company filings such as SEC annual reports, and brand statements published on a company's own website.
- Published reporting. Used only for LIKELY, never for CONFIRMED, and always named and dated.
What a record proves, and what it doesn't
- A recall shows which company made, packed or recalled a product on that date. Suppliers change, so every entry shows the record date and the date we checked it.
- “Recalling firm” is not always the factory. Sometimes it is the packer, importer or brand owner. We say which role the record gives.
- We never say a store brand is “the same” as a name brand unless a record says so.
- Recall counts are printed as the record states them, with the agency and date. For tires, the count covers the whole recall across every brand on it.
- We don't use logos, and we don't name private individuals.
